Traditionally not used with Rhizoma Zingiberis Officinalis (gan jiang),

1. Dispel pathogenic wind from muscles for relieving exterior syndrome
for common cold with headache from Wind-Cold or Wind-Heat.
2. Alleviate itching and rashes for skin eruptions, measles, and urticaria.
3. Cure boils when they first erupt, especially if accompanied by chills and fever.
4. Stop bleeding, using the ash of the toasted herb
Do not used it for patients without pathogenic wind invaded.
Do not used it for patients who are sweating due to Flu or Cold.

Dosage: 3g-9g/Day

1.Induces Sweating to Release the Exterior:
It cures people with wind-cold excess patterns, which causes fever, chills, headache, or lack of sweating.
2.Stops Wheezing and Asthma:
It cures obstruction of Lung Qi due to exterior Wind-Cold or wheezing from an internal condition.
3.Reduces Edema and Promotes Urination:
It is especially useful for curing edema with obstruction from external Wind-Cold pathogen.
4. Disperses Wind-Cold: It cures arthritis and Rubella.
Avoid to use it for a person who is weak, spontaneously sweat dut to yin deficient, or has asthma due to kidney qi
not securing.
Long-term or overuse causes heavy sweating and weakens the body. May also raise blood pressure.
Do not use if a patient has insomnia, high blood pressure, or cardiac arrhythmias.
Usually the row herb is used for induceing sweating to release the Exterior;
the roasted one is used for stoping Wheezing and asthma.
After it is toasted with honey, dispersing nature of the herb became less strong, but it is good for nurishing the Lung.
Herb-Drug Interactions
Ma Huang contains ephedrine and pseudoephedrine which interferes with Sympathomimic (anti-seizure) and Cariovascular drugs.
Ma Huang (Ephedra) and MAOI can cause dangerously high blood pressure.
